October Android Distribution Chart: Nougat at Peak and No Signs of Pie!
The stable version of Android Pie 9.0 was released three months ago and it first debuted at Google I/O 2018. The Android Pie update has been officially rolled out to Pixel, Some Android One, OnePlus, Essential and some Xiaomi Phones and it still doesn't show in the monthly stats. However, Oreo is on the rise since September while Nougat numbers are falling.
The distribution number for Oreo devices has increased and it may partially be due to the release of MIUI 10 on top of Android 8.1 as there is a lot of Xiaomi phone out and about. Perhaps more OEMs are updating their devices to Oreo or the new device releases in the mid-range and low-end segment have pushed Oreo numbers up a little.
Android Nougat sits at a peak of 28.2%, Oreo at 21.5% takes the second spot, and Marshmallow at 21.3% ranks third.
You can expect Android Pie at the end of the chart in November or December when Gingerbread is gone as the only version above 0.1% share are shown on the chart. If you haven't noticed, most of the new releases for the past couple of months come with Android 8.1 or 8.0 Oreo out of the box adding up to the fact of the increase in market share.
