Samsung unveils 8K TV with HDR 10+ Support & More!

At IFA today, Samsung made its debut in the predominantly Dell equipped- 8K display market with its new Q900R 8K QLED TV. The Q900R is the second TV/Display with 8K resolution and can display films, videos, or even images captured by 8K sensors like the RED Weapon and can even possibly play games at 8K resolution. The Q900R will be available in three different size viz.-65”, 75” and 82” and all of these are the same panels and offer same specs but different sizes.

The Q900R features a QLED panel which means that the contrast, color saturation, color production, and so on will be up to par with the best offerings in the market. The Q900R, like many other Samsung displays, will support HDR 10+ which will help enhance the viewing experience and will really compliment the 8K resolution. The TV has a peak brightness of 4,000 nits which is the basic requirement for HDR certification. Samsung's 8K QLED TV provides astonishing image clarity, but without much native content available yet, it's most impressive feature is the ability to make low-res content look great through 'AI upscaling'.

Samsung has made efforts to make the upscaling smarter than usual and not make the image weird. Additional smarts are added to the mix - AI Adaptive streaming, for example, enables smarter buffering, so even inconsistent transfer speeds don’t result in a slowdown of 8K content when it rolls out. Meanwhile, AI local dimming analyses various images to avoid drastic changes to picture brightness. The TV also has a newer and better processor to handle the jaw-dropping resolution and juice up your pixels!

But, at the end of the day, the question still persists, “Who is it really for?” Since even 4K display are not sold on a bigger extent and who need these many pixels? Well, the obvious answer is- Professional, Photographers, Content Creators, and Enthusiast would pay thousands of dollars for these many pixels. Speaking of dollars, expect this TV to be price around 5K-6K as Dell’s offering hovers around the same range. Samsung’s 8K QLED will bear different names in different regions. Only the 85-inch option is expected to be available in the US for example, named the Q900FN, with a release date pegged for October 2018.

Well, if you are planning to buy this TV, you better be serious about you Pixels! This kind of resolution is defiantly going to blow your mind! But, this product is probably not going to be predominantly used by your Average Consumer for the most part. At the same time, it is great for professionals to have options between Brands, Sizes, and ergonomics. The Average Consumer can expect 8K coming to the mainstream by 2020 and have one sitting in their living room. And for more of such Tech Info and News, Visit RW Tech Blog.
