HiSilicon Kirin 980- World’s First 7nm Chipset, Way Better than Predecessor & Snapdragon 845!

    Many huge things happened at IFA 2018 and among them, one of the more famous ones are Honor Magic 2, Samsung 8K TV, Mi Mix 3, Xperia XZ3, and then there was HiSilicon Kirin 980! The Hisilicon is the newest addition to the Kirin flagship SoC line-up of Huawei and Honor device and the best Smartphone processor on earth! The Chipset is reportedly 37% faster than the predecessor Kirin 970 and also crushes Snapdragon 845! The processor is for sure a blast in terms of performance, power efficiency and a lot more!

To summarize, the best processor should have great architecture, the number of cores and their working, clock speed, and process. And everything needs to be balanced to really juice up the performance and not have any issues! Up until this moment, we have seen chipsets with 14nm process, 12nm process and even 10nm process, but the mass production of a 7nm chipset wasn’t announced until HiSilicon 980 announcement!

    The HiSilicon Kirin 980 is the world’s first chipset which has a 7nm process which is supposed to go under mass production! The Kirin 980 is also the world’s first chipset to use Cortex-A76 cores, dual neural processing units, the Mali G76 GPU, a 1.4Gbps LTE modem, and support for Faster RAM! Manufactured with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufactures Company’s (TSMC) 7nm process, Kirin 980 also uses a new Octa-core architecture which mixes little, medium and big core for even more efficiency! Four little cores run at 1.8GHz clock speed and use Cortex-A55, the two medium cores run at 1.92GHz clock speed, and the two big cores run at 2.6GHz.

    As the SoC uses 7nm process it delivers 20% faster performance and 40% better battery efficiency (When compared to 10nm SoC). The Kirin 980 also sports two Neural Processing Units! According to Huawei, these NPUs help devices run AI tasks faster and more accurately than other processors! The 980 can recognize up to 4,500 stills per minute when compared to 2,371 by Snapdragon 845 and Apple’s A11’s 1,458, also according to Huawei’s experiments!

    Also the “World’s first” in the Kirin 980 is the Mali G76 GPU! The Mali G76 is supposed to offer 30% more efficiency and allow devices to run a wider variety of Graphics intensive Games and proudly exclaim, “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!” Also new to the Gang is faster 1.4Gbps Cat 21 LTE modem, Support for faster RAM up to 2,133MHz LPDDR4X RAM, support for 5G modem already in preparation, and the dual image signal for better photo quality!

    Word in the street is that upcoming devices like Huawei Mate 20 and Honor Magic 2 will be packing in the HiSilicon 980 SoC! All of the information is obviously reported by Huawei and is not yet tested by anyone else but you will just have to take their word for it this time around!
