YouTube to Discontinue YouTube Gaming App in March 2019 & Merge it in Main App!
YouTube Gaming was launched on August 26, 2015, as a separate section on both the web and YouTube Android and iOS app. The YouTube app also has a gaming section under the trending page and features popular gameplay videos! There are many other YouTube specialized apps available on the Play Store like YouTube Go, YouTube Kids, and YouTube Studios.
Gaming started receiving mainstream attention then and has gained much popularity since with the biggest YouTube channels and most viewed videos being Game channels and Gameplay. But, YouTube Go, YouTube Kids and even YouTube Studio has above or at least 50 Million downloads and has a rating of at least 4.3 and above whereas YouTube Gaming has a rating of 4.2 stars.
All of this has led to Google shutting the YouTube Gaming app not immediately but in March 2019. The other major reason for YouTube shutting down the Gaming app is because of tough competition from Twitch. Twitch is much better at Gameplay and live stream as it was intended for that specific task.
The app also ended up being a testing ground of sorts for things like a dark theme, Super Chat, and Channel Memberships. But in a weird turn of events, the popularity of the service (according to YouTube, at least) is leading to its shutdown in March 2019.
