Companies around Camera & Dealing with It! Huawei Gets Caught Using DSLR Image!
It seems like every new flagship device coming out today needs to have the latest and greatest camera of all time and just smash at DxO score rating. For those naïve individuals who don’t know what DxO mark is, DxO mark DxOMark is a well-known Camera rating site since 2008. DxOMark is a Highly-Professional rating Lab as it conducts tests in more than 50 indoor conditions, which are controlled to check various aspects such as Noise, Contrast, and Exposure with outdoor conditions included. Learn more about DxOMark ratings here.
These days camera is considered the most important factor and every launch event include 15 minutes of raving about how good their new phone’s camera is and how it strikes at DxOMark ratings. But, it always does not go well for some brands. To this day there have been tons of commercials regarding cameras by various brands, some very famous and others not so much. But, every once in a while a brand is caught red-handed doing some shenanigans. There have been some recent incidents which highlighted the situation to a greater extent.
In a recent instance included Samsung Brazil was caught smuggling a stock image under the tag of “Shot on Samsung Galaxy A8”. This act does not mean that the A8’s camera is bad, indeed A8 has a very capable camera which can take some amazing selfies. The latter agreed to this and gave a vague justification. Samsung isn’t the only brand doing this, but Huawei recently used a commercial in which they were supposed to show capabilities of the Nova 3. It was later established that the image was shot on a DSLR after the model uploaded a behind the scene photo!
To be completely transparent, the commercial never said that the images were shot on a Nova 3, but it was to be understood. If you think that these stunts are new, you are sorely wrong. Huawei in 2016 also did the same thing by camouflaging a Canon DSLR image as a Huawei P9. And even before that Nokia was falsely marketing a setup to show-off Optical Image Stabilization form Lumia 920. And the videos shot on various phones are also not the sheer truth if completely. The videos you see in commercials which include claims like “Shot On “Our Phone”.
Many of the videos you under the banner of “Shot On our phone” are not entirely shot on the smartphone. These videos include advanced equipment and are shot under controlled environments. They are often shot using Gimbals to help Image Stabilizations, Drones for scenic shots, advanced lighting for effects and various other tricks to produce better outcomes. Technically they are true to the title but use equipment that a normal consumer normally doesn’t.
You can find many videos on YouTube highlighting videos taken on smartphones using trollies, drones, sliders, crane and other crazy stuff. There have been many cases were brands were caught on the wrong side. And if you are one of those many people who just go crazy in love with a device because it has high DxO mark ratings, firstly understand how they work here and next time any device score highest in Benchmark scores, should you not live that device too?.
